What He Does During the 40 Days After Resurrection   pastor chulki hong,  SungWon A/G church. 2023, Nov.2

1. Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene.
John 20:15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping, and for whom is she seeking?” Then Mary, perceiving him to be the gardener, said to her, “Lord, if you have taken it, tell me where you have laid it, and I will take it.”
16. When Jesus had called to Mary, she turned around and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabboni” (which means “her teacher”).
17. Jesus said to him, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, and to my God and your God.’
18. Then Mary Magdalene went and told her disciples, “I have seen her Lord.” She also said, “This is what the Lord said to her.”
1) She approached the crying woman and comforted her.
2) She is a woman possessed by seven demons.
2. She appeared to the women.
Matthew 28:8 8 The women quickly left the tomb in fear and great joy and ran to tell the disciples. 9 Jesus found them and said to them, “Is everything okay?” The women came and held his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus He said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”
Meeting the Lord is both scary and joyful. Fear is the fear of the Lord, and joy is the joy and hope that arises because of the resurrected Lord.
Who are the women?
Mark 15:40 And there were women watching from afar, among whom was Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and Joseph, and Salome.
41. These were those who followed Jesus and served him while he was in Galilee. There were also many other women who went up to Jerusalem with him.
3. He appeared to Peter.
Luke 24:34 They said, “The Lord has risen indeed and appeared to Simon.” 35 They also told what had happened on the road and how Jesus had been made known to them by the breaking of the bread.
1 Corinthians 15 4. He was buried, but he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. 5. He appeared to Cephas, and then to the twelve.
Still, for men, Peter is the leader. He appeared to Peter, the eldest brother of the 12 disciples.
4. Two disciples going down to Emmaus
Luke 24:13. On that day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, which is about twenty-five miles from Jerusalem. 14. They were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. 15. While they were talking and inquiring with each other, Jesus came near and walked with them. 16. But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.
Mark 16 12. After this, as two of them were walking through the country, Jesus appeared to them in another way.
13. They went and told the remaining disciples, but they did not believe them either.
5. He appeared to the ten disciples except Thomas.
John 20:19. On this day, the first day of the week, at evening, when the doors of the place where the disciples were had been shut were shut for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you!” 20. And when he had said this, he lifted his hands and his side. 21 Then Jesus said to them, “Peace be with you! Just as the Father has sent me, so I send you.” 22 When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” 23 .Whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven; and whose sins you retain, they are retained.” 24. ○ Thomas, who was called Didymus, and one of the twelve disciples, was not with Jesus when he came.
Although he was not with Jesus’ 11 disciples, Thomas was still with Jesus’ disciples. He appeared to the disciples when there was no doubting Thomas.
6. He appeared to eleven disciples, including Thomas.
John 20:25 The other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” Then Thomas said, “Unless I saw in his hands the print of the nails and put my finger into the print of the nails and put my hand into his side, I would not believe.” 26. After eight days had passed, when the disciples were again in the house and Thomas was with them, and the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27. Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, look at my hands, and look at my hands.” 28. Then Thomas answered, “My Lord and my God.” 29. Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are they who have not seen and yet believed.”
After eight days had passed, he appeared to his disciples. Because there are many people like Thomas. This is because even when Jesus ascended to heaven in Matthew 28, there were many among them who doubted the resurrection of Jesus. There are many people who only believe in things that look like chopping blocks. Believing in the invisible God is a miracle among miracles.
7. Lake Tiberias was seen by seven disciples.
John 21:1 After this he revealed himself to his disciples again at the lake of Tiberias. This is what he did: 2. Simon Peter, Thomas (also called Didymus), Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples. 3. Simon Peter said, “I am going to fish.” They said, “We will go with you,” so they went out and got into the boat, but they caught nothing that night.
He appeared to Simon Peter, Thomas called Didymus, Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee (Apostle John and James), and two other disciples.
There is a scene where Peter jumps out of the boat and runs to Jesus when John says it is the Lord. There is a scene in Luke chapter 5 where Jesus meets his disciples. He said he caught a lot of fish that time, but this time he caught 153.
8. Jesus appeared to the eleven disciples on the mountain of Galilee, the mountain where he had been commanded.
Matthew 28:16. The eleven disciples went into Galilee and came to the mountain where Jesus had told them. 17. They saw Jesus and worshiped him, but some still doubted.
18. Then Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. 20. In all that I have commanded you. Teach them to obey and behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
9. To the 500 saints (1 Corinthians 15:6)
1 Corinthians 15 6 After that he appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom are still alive, but some have fallen asleep.
Jesus appeared to 500 people, but only 120 of them received the Holy Spirit. We must pray to receive the Holy Spirit.
10. He appeared to James, Jesus’ younger brother.
7. Then he appeared to James, and then to all the apostles.
James, Jesus’ younger brother, did not believe in Jesus. However, as he watched the ministry of Jesus and the sight of the resurrected Jesus, he began to gain faith and lived as a praying disciple, even earning the nickname “camel’s knees.”
Acts 1:13 And they went up into the upper room where they were staying; Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon Zelote, and Judas son of James were all there. 14 And the women, Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers, together with their hearts, devoted themselves to prayer.
11. Ascension from the Mount of Olives 40 days after the resurrection
Mark 16:19. After the Lord Jesus had finished speaking, he was taken up into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God. 20. And the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them, confirming his word by the signs that followed.
Luke 24:50 Jesus brought them out to Bethany and lifted up his hands and blessed them. 51 While he was blessing, he left them and was taken up into heaven. 52 They worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. 53. And they continued praising God in the temple.
During the Passover, Jesus was crucified, and after his resurrection, for 40 days, you can see Jesus resurrected and speaking as he ascended to heaven. And then Pentecost comes. They prayed for 10 days without leaving the temple or Jerusalem, and the Holy Spirit came upon them. The number was reduced from 500 to 120. It’s because I couldn’t wait, I couldn’t endure it for long, I couldn’t endure it. (Colossians 1:11)
